The Awesome List

Aug 15th, 2008 by Joy Hogger Filed Under Hog Wild

Introducing, ‘The Awesome List.’ The top seven things we love this week/month/day tallied up but not necessarily in order of importance.

The Beijing Olympics

15,000 Chinese men moving in perfect synchronization, Michael Phelps, Gold and ping-pong in HD. Loves it.

Tropic Thunder Bobble-heads

The good folks at Paramount sent these over. I’m already excited for the next earthquake.

Mad Men Season 2

We’re not really sure what that ’skirt’ scene was all about, but I wont let it sway me.

Simpsonized Non-Simpsons

Joker is a lot less terrifying in Springfield. Check out more “Springfield Punx.”

Gavin & Stacey

Guy meets girl. Guy gets to know girl very well (on the phone). Guy finally sees the girl and says “I Love You!” (in person). And that’s all in episode one! And truly, this show is love at first sight. Though it looks like the BBC spent about $2 an episode, Gavin, Stacey, their parents and best mates have the makings of comic genius and that outweighs pretty much everything. Here in the US, the UK seasons 1 and 2 will be combined for our viewing pleasure (plus, their seasons are way too short - like an appetizer compared to ours). So have a looks see at these two lovebirds. They’ll make you smile from ear to ear.

When We Were Romans by Matthew Kneale

Told through the eyes of a young boy, “When We Were Romans” is the most enchanting book of the summer. Master Lawrence is our guide as he travels with mother and sister away from Scotland, where the family is trying to begin anew. The mother, Hannah, had lived in Rome as a young woman, and now she returns, and Kneale’s readers enjoy her reawakening and the wonderment of a young boy discovering the ancient city. Love it.

Rescue Me Minisodes

These hilarious shorts keep the fire burning until the series returns next year. Erin Andrews in the outfield at Fenway Park, and an Eskimo Pie.
